about rick

I picked up writing in grade school.  My first writing assignment was to describe someone who I respected a great deal.  It led to building characters and creating scenarios.  I jotted down stories about people I met, places I saw, and situations I made up.  I kept it going through high school and college, keeping several personal blogs ranging in topics from current events to the latest idea I had for the next Great American Novel.  I graduated with a B.A. in English.  I never seriously entertained the thought that I might enter the workforce as a writer.

And I didn’t.  Here I am, all grown up.  I work as a systems administrator and have earned an MFA in Creative Writing from Lesley University.  Prior to that, I had a long and awful career as a retail manager.  If you want to go back even further, I worked as a telemarketer, an office assistant, a burger flipper, and a leather salesman.  No, not that kind of leather salesman.

The purpose of this website is to hash out ideas, entertain readers, and break ballpoint pens.  In 2012 I published a novella entitled Silent Is the Night, which is available in print and on the Kindle/Nook platforms.  Short/flash fiction, commentary, and random book reviews are published here – I try to tag each article appropriately, and the tag cloud is located on the right towards the bottom.  Click around, have fun, leave a comment or two.  But most importantly, thanks to you for stopping by.

Hey Rick very cool site. It might amuse you to know I’ve gotten back into writing stand up comedy and thinking about performing at open mic nights. I remember us writing comic books in middle school and trying to make each other laugh, so why not get back into it. Anyway good to see your doing good. Keep up the web page….and good work!
